The UK’S #1 Pilates Classes

chiro

It’s quite common for clients to join my Pilates classes after they have invested in a chiropractor. They want to continue building their strength and maintaining their chiropractor treatment to ensure that the results that they have achieved stay with them for longer.  Chiropractic treatments set the foundations for great health. Pilates builds upon this aids integration of the treatments.  Ensuring your body is fully aligned and remains injury-free.  Whilst Pilates is a great way to improve balance, flexibility, and strength and helps to align the body, chiropractic treatment is the foundation. Many of my Pilates clients have combined Pilates and chiropractic care to create a strong, more aligned skeletal frame.   I have worked with a number of chiropractors over my 20 years of practice and this blog will outline the best chiropractors in Exeter. I often suggest that Clients with longer-term discomfort, pain issues address these issues with a chiropractor which is why I decided to write this post as a guide to the 3 best chiropractors in Exeter. I’d be interested to know your thoughts and experiences, feel free to drop a message in the comments box below.

That’s why, in this blog post, I’m going to go through my recommended chiropractors in Exeter. I’ll outline my top 3 chiropractors in Exeter and include as much information as I can – costs, speciality, number of practitioners, etc.

How does chiropractic treatment work with Pilates?

It is very common for Pilates consultants to work very closely with chiropractors.  It is often very useful to build a bigger picture of clients needs and will when required ask the specialist for more details on client issues – with their permission.  Building a strong working relationship where both parties support the clients’ wellbeing. Combing chiropractor treatments with Pilates practice is in my opinion, the fastest route to recovery.  I also recommend my current clients visit a chiropractor when they’re struggling with problem areas that we can’t sort out together.

For instance, one client – Derek has severe and debilitating sciatic issues, we have worked together with stretches and exercises over a period of time and he wasn’t getting relief.  The issue was deeper.  It was a trapped sciatic nerve that he and I could not release. A few trips to a recommended chiropractor and the issues has been resolved.

What is Pilates

Pilates is synonymous with core strength and alignment.  The exercises in Pilates focus on controlling internal muscles, with breath and executing the exercises in a slow, timely manner, to ensure that injury is prevented.  Focusing on building internal core muscles, means clients have a stronger posture so that they are able to strengthen their back muscles and alleviate back pain.

Pilates uses small, repetitive exercises that help to correct muscular imbalances and improve balance, strength, and flexibility.  An exercise that strengthens posture and develops coordination compliments the chiropractor spinal adjustments

Pilates develops core strength.  The muscles that make up this core are:

  • diaphragm,
  • pelvic floor,
  • abdominals including rectus abdominis, transverse abdominals, obliques,
  • the low back extensors,
  • glute muscles.

Why do you need a chiropractor?

Headaches have been a burden for most of my life, GP advised me that menopause headaches are a symptom at my age. But I had a nagging doubt, I knew my exercise posture and performance was great.  However during lockdown, without access to my normal routine, the headaches became more pronounced.

During the COVID lockdown I was unable to practice Pilates as I usually did, however, I was still running and performing a weights programme so that my muscles stayed in shape to prevent osteoporosis in later life. The burden of ‘intense’ repetitive exercise without the stretching Pilates release afterwards meant that old injuries soon became apparent.  My headaches intensified and I needed to find a permanent solution to the ‘headache’ problem.  Whilst I have followed various treatments over the years, I had never had an Xray to get to the source of the problem, which is what I was able to do at Rock Chiropractors.

Chiropractic clinics remained open during lockdown to ease the burden from the NHS. So like Derek, in the example above, after a few chiropractic treatments my headaches have gone and my commitment to Pilates increased.

Chiropractic treatments can be a very ‘intense’ and big jolt to the body, and over the years there has been controversy on the methods – clicking a bone into place is a necessary part of treatment. It isn’t advisable to hold a bone out of place for a long period of times, the resulting wear and tear on surrounding muscles and tissues can leave irreparable damage.  The controversy traditionally arose from the shock to the muscles.

This concern is something I have heard from Pilates clients. This is why I love the chiropractic treatments at Rock Chiropractic health, they use a one-of-a-kind blend of conservative techniques.  They have the chiropractic expertise but it also used with a huge amount of compassionate and individualised care.   The bonus with working with the husband and wife team – Dr Sari Botros, the chiropractor and his wife Wida Botros who is the Chartered Physiotherapist – is that they can blend their expertise to help solve your pain and trauma issues.  Team of professionals ready to help you in the best way possible, from muscle aches to headaches.

What I love about the team at Rock Chiropractic Centre is that will take a full overview and history and outline your treatment.  They discuss whether you need a one-off session or more combined services.  The bonus is that they’ve got everything available all under one roof – physio, chiro, acupuncture plus post-treatment rooms to embed the treatments.

Sari and Wida’s motto is to offer the highest standard of care, make appropriate recommendations based on the Xray information and work together so that you can get the most out of every day and don’t let back pain, arthritis, sciatica or any other symptoms stop you achieving your goals and having the best life possible.
